Two kinds of bubble
Circled letters are outlines: Ⓐ ⓑ ⓒ. They have separate capitals and lowercase letters, and the numbers 0 to 20 exist as circled digits. This generator circles single digits.
Filled bubbles are solid circles with the letter cut out. There is only one set of letters, so capitals and lowercase come out the same.
Emoji can get in the way
On some phones the filled bubble letters are drawn like emoji, in a colour you cannot change and at a size that does not match the text around them. The outline bubbles are plainer and behave more like ordinary letters.
Keep it short
Bubble letters take up a lot of room and are slow to read. They suit a short name or a heading, not a paragraph.
Questions
Why are my lowercase letters capitals in the filled style?
Unicode only has one set of filled bubble letters, so both cases use it.
Do numbers work?
Yes. Digits 1 to 9 and 0 become circled or filled numbers, which are standard characters on most devices.
Can I change the colour?
No. Colour comes from the app. The letters are plain text characters, so they take the text colour, except where a device draws them as emoji.
