Upside down text generator

Type a message and read it upside down. The text is turned around and reversed, so it reads correctly when you turn your screen over.

0 / 500

This makes styled text out of special characters. It is not a font file, and some screen readers read it badly, so use it for decoration only.

Example

The text Hello, world in this style:

Upside down
plɹoʍ 'ollǝH

How it flips

Two things happen. The order of the letters is reversed, and each letter is swapped for a character that looks like it rotated half a turn. Question marks and exclamation marks become the inverted marks used in Spanish.

The letters are look-alikes

There is no upside down alphabet in Unicode. The generator borrows shapes from phonetic symbols, Greek and mathematics. Some capitals have no good match, so they use the closest shape, and a few lowercase letters, such as o, s, x and z, look the same either way up.

Multiple lines

If you type more than one line, the line order is reversed as well, so the whole block turns over like a card.

Keep it short

Long upside down passages are tiring to read and some of the borrowed characters may show as boxes on older devices. A short line is the sweet spot.

Questions

Why does the text come out backwards as well?

Turning something upside down also reverses the reading direction. The generator does both so it reads naturally when flipped.

Why are some letters unchanged?

Letters like o, s, x and z look the same upside down, so they have no separate character.

Does it work in Spanish or other languages?

Plain letters, numbers and common punctuation convert. Accented and non-Latin characters are left as they are.
